Collecting Contact Info (The Right Way)

Originally: record voice → see transcript → submit. Done.

Some businesses asked: can we get the customer's contact info?

Fair request. But adding a form BEFORE recording would kill conversion. Nobody wants to type their email just to give feedback.

So we added it AFTER.

The flow now:

  1. Record voice (30 seconds of investment)
  2. See transcript (commitment made)
  3. Optional: add name/email/phone
  4. Submit

Why this order matters:

By step 3, the customer has already invested effort. They've recorded, they've seen their words transcribed. The hardest part is done.

Asking for contact info NOW is asking them to add 5% more effort to protect 95% of work already done. That's a much easier yes.

We made it optional.

Fields aren't required. Business owners toggle whether to show the contact step at all. Some want it, some don't.

What we don't do:

  • No mandatory email before recording
  • No dark patterns ("enter email to see your transcript")
  • No selling data anywhere

If someone wants to give feedback anonymously, they can. The review is still valuable.

The lesson: sequence matters more than you think. Where you ask is as important as what you ask.
